Our origins in technology

The Cooper family legacy in technology started in 1970 when Tom Cooper established President Office Machines as the Agent for US Corporation Smith Corona typewriters post his successful career path at Olivetti Australia.  This led to the President establishing the first Electric Australian typewriter assembly plant being opened in Hornsby, New South Wales in 1978 by the Hon. Minister for Industial Relations, Tony Street MP.  With the advancement of word processors the company evolved by introducing early CPM Computers then launching the revolutionary Osborne 1 and II luggable computers into the Australia market with outstanding success.

Now as President Computers in 1986 the Company established a PC Assembly Plant in Queensland open by the Hon. State Minisiter for Science and Energy, Mike Ahern.   President built private brand personal computers which were subsequently awarded PC of Year over three consecutive years.  With branches and distribution across Australia the company ventured into the early Computer Networks, Desktop Publishing, OCR and many other aligned areas of personal computing technologies.

The late Tom Cooper was fondly known as an impatient, generous maverick competing with blue chip market leading companies like IBM, to offer higher specification products at more competitive prices. Tom employed people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds who were willing to embrace the opportunity to learn and upskill and advance their career.

The next generation of the Cooper family continues to lead as entrepreneurs in areas of technology spanning telecommunications, digital security, media, data rights, commercialisation, regulatory reforms and cutting-edge Platform/SaaS software development that empowers individuals.
